I came upon an archival 1976 J. Press brochure that holds forth today. Indeed, bearing witness to the original writing in their room at The Yale Club pen and ink to script by Seigneur of the Manor, my Uncle Irving Press assisted by former Savile Row tailor together with his meticulous British wordsmith, Merchandise Manager John Norey. Here’s the original:
J. PRESS may be a last resource for Ready Made Shirts which embrace the fundamental ingredients of Custom Shirt-making, Combed Pure Cotton full count fabrics; knife cut for uniformity of sizes; careful stitching and seaming on slow running single needle machines; complete hand pressing and folding. The result: well-fitting generous bodied personal linen in which to take genuine pride.
Our current panoply of Oxford Cloth Button Down shirts follows the 1976 fold remaining available in traditional renditions of white, blue, yellow, pink, and an assortment of stripes.
Menswear Fashion including button down shirts today incur various renditions that affect changes with the calendar. Button down shirts made beyond our favored shores stagger with infirmity after a reasonable amount of wear. Not at J. Press.
Made in the USA, J. Press OCBDs (Oxford Cloth Button Down shirts) are constructed of a sturdy all-cotton fabric that only gets better with age. Offered with a standard chest pocket or our signature flap pocket model with locker loop and rear collar button. Both feature an unlined collar for the perfect roll.
Unchallenged Ready-Made Archetype For The Ages

The shirts are beautiful, I just wish they were offered in larger sizes.
I have only recently discovered “ J Press “ while looking for an array of “ repo ties “ to go with my Oxford shirts
Despite our poor exchange rate and the tyranny of distances , my recent purchases were exactly what I wanted , arrived in good time and are being worn with pride !
I have added J Press into my international clothing purchases …. Thanks
Love my Press OCBDs. As good as it gets.
Never knew your OCBDs could be had without the flap pocket. Yay!
Richard I remember way back when Press used to sell a straight collar shirt called the BritPin. A shirt that you could wear with a gold collar bar. Do you still sell that shirt and a collar bar to go with it?
