Description

A stainless steel time only manually wound wrist watch by Longines. This is an example of one the many military issued wrist watches by the Logines watch company. The screw back case back of this watch, along with relevant serial numbers, has "USN BuShips" engraved into it. This was to signify that the watch was a special order piece for the United States Navy Bureau of Ships. Thus contracted by the Navy for use by its sailors.

From receiving the archival information from Longines the watch was invoiced to the Longines-Wittnauer watch company on the 23rd March 1945, thus making this an issued watch during WW2, albeit toward the war's end. The dial in this case has been refinished, but it has been refinished in the correct manor for watches issued. The Arabic numerals for the 12 hour clock on the outside, while a small ring of 24 hour numerals in red sit just inside. The correct hand set is present, as is the crown. All parts that are often lost or replaced over the course of time. The case is presented in an unpolished, albeit worn, condition. The case back has been victim to a number of aggressive case back slips, but with this important engraving on the back, it is best to not polish this. With this being on the inside of the watch, it does not bother the eye whilst wearing. The watch is powered by the Longines caliber 23M manually wound. An opportunity to own a piece of second world war issued history.

Comes with "Extract from the Archives" certificate.
