A stainless steel Rolex Oyster Royal.  This is a true piece of early Rolex history.  During this period of Rolex’s history they had a variety of new lines coming out.  There was the Air King, Lion, Giant and Tiger series, with the King being the only one that survived.  There was also the Royal line. The very first Oyster case was patented by Rolex in the 1920's and was Rolex's first waterproof case. This feature is present on almost every watch in the Rolex catalog, including this reference; 6044 Oyster Royal.  So, this also has the screw back case that we still see present on all Rolex Oyster watches to this day.  This also has the Rolex Patent crown with the cross on it.

The unusual Arabic dial has all the original radium lume in the numbers.  The leaf shaped hands appear to have been re-lumed at some point.  The dial has patina to it, but as can be expected from a watch from the early 1950’s.  The early squat and wide Rolex crown looks great on this dial. An example of how the brand played with the shape and dimensions of its iconic logo.

The watch is powered by a manual wind caliber 710 movement.  A movement that was used across the board in these early manual wind watches.

The condition of the watch overall is used, but it is original and has a great appearance overall. A real piece of Rolex history!
