A stainless steel electric time only watch by Wittnauer.  This could be one of the most funky and cool looking time only watches ever made!  A bold statement, indeed. But, when you combine this clean, bold and large size case with such a simple uncluttered dial to set off, perhaps, the coolest hand set ever made the end result is a superb overall looking watch.

The Wittnauer Electro-Chron watch was launched in the early 1960’s utilizing the Landeron caliber 4750 movement.  Wittnauer was one of the many marketers of the Landeron, the first Swiss Electric movement, introduced in 1961.  This was the first example of the caliber to be introduced.  The next evolution saw the addition of a hacking mechanism in the 4751, and then came an improved hack in the 4760 that actually disconnected the battery when hacking.   All three movements are examples of fixed coil system, contact controlled electric watches. These movements were powered either using disposable dry cell batteries or from an inbuilt accumulator

The silvered dial is all original and in superb condition. There was no luminous material applied to the hands or the dial from the factory.  Simple and clean baton markers pick out the hours, with a great looking lightening bolt at the 12 o’clock position.  As mentioned prior, the dial is very simple and clean.  There is the printing of the Wittenauer name in black, and the word “Electric” above the 6 o’clock position.  This makes this example one of the earlier models.   Later models saw the name “Electro Chron” printed in its place.

The best part, for me, of an already excellent looking watch is the hand set.  It is certainly one of the coolest I’ve encountered on my watch travels, and is an exaggerated and more fun look to the famous Rolex Milgauss launched in 1956 with its iconic lightening bolt second sweep hand.

Overall, the watch is presented in superb condition.  The dial is excellent, the hand set perfect and the case thick, sharp and unpolished.  The screw back case back fully signed and being the full case back, not the example with the battery replacement section.  The crystal has some light scratching, but is original and is still in very good condition.  If you like a large size steel time only dress watch with a twist, this watch will very much deliver.
