Description

A solid 14 carat yellow gold Omega dress watch with a handsome white waffle dial. This is very much a classic and durable example of Omega dress watches from the mid-20th Century, in a good way. A simple and clean case design frames this eggshell white dial with a waffle texture that gives the watch a little more unique twist. This added detail is offset by having very fine angled applied solid 14 carat gold stick hour markers and clean dauphine hands. The watch has the added complication of having the subsidiary seconds set just above the 6 o'clock marker. The dial has a chapter ring applied in fine black printed hash marks which is complemented by the crosshair design of the sub seconds dial. Below this, at the foot of the dial, is the original “Swiss” printing. The Omega name is also printed in the same black stamping with the iconic Omega logo applied in solid 14 carat gold.

The watch is presented in good, original condition. The case appears to be unpolished, which is a preferable option. The lugs are sharp and crisp. There is an original personalization engraved in the back of the case which is rather sweet. Reading; “I love you, Gail”. The case is quite typical from a number of Swiss watch makers of being a US contract case. Meaning the movement and dial were sent over from Omega in Switzerland, and then a contracted specific case maker was employed in the US to provide the case, having been designed and approved by Omega. This was very common at this time due to high taxes and duties being levied on imports from Europe, especially on gold. This case was made by case maker “Queens” and is fully marked in the back of the watch. This is also why it is a 14, not 18 carat gold case.

The watch is powered by the highly reliable brass finished caliber 410 Omega movement. The movement was used across the board by Omega in a number of time only watches since its launch in 1951. This example is in excellent condition and keeping very good time. The watch overall is in good condition, and commensurate with a watch that is now approaching 70 years old. The dial is original and not re-finished, as is often the case with these mid-century dress watches. There is some discoloration around the edges, but nothing that damages the overall look and feel of the watch. The original signed winding crown is also present. If you are looking for a classic vintage watch that can be worn every day, then this will tick the box.
