A solid eighteen carat gold automatic Omega Seamaster. The iconic Seamaster line first appeared in the Omega line in 1948. It is very much a 'classic' wrist watch that is hard to not like. An unfussy, clean case with small frame, quite thick straight drop lugs and simple, uncluttered dial make it a very easy watch to wear on a daily basis. This version without the date is even more easy on the eye with no additional complications. It is a practical, hard working watch, thanks to its hard working Omega automatic movement. The fine and clean pencil hands are filled in the center with black paint and not luminous material (dial stamped 'Swiss Made' at the base) along the outer edge of the dial are the hash minute track.

The watch is powered by an Omega caliber 552 automatic movement. The 560 is a high jewel 24 jewels, Swiss made, automatic movement that was found in various models in the 1960s, and was introduced by the brand circa 1958, running until around 1969. This vintage calibre is in Omega’s signature copper plate movement with a swan neck style regulator system. There were a number of iterations based on this ebauche from the time for different models. They ranged from the 560 through to the 564, including higher grade chronometer iterations.

The handsome silver dial is signed Omega with the applied gold logo along with the printed Seamaster logo, with iconic "coat hanger" style S all of which is original, and not re-finished. The winding crown is also original with the Omega logo applied to it. There is a little spotting to the dial, but this only enhances the ‘vintage’ feel of the watch.

The thick screw back case back features the Seamaster seahorse logo and is in excellent unpolished condition. This watch features a solid 18k yellow gold case which was produced by Omega in Switzerland, not the US. In the '60s, it was common for Swiss watchmakers to send movements to the United States and have them domestically cases to due to the high import tariffs that were being levied on imports such as gold watches into the US. These are always 14k gold cases. This watch was made for European market, and later found its way to the US.

Overall, a great watch with a high carat gold case that is thicker than most that were made in the US, for the US market. Also, this is a screw back case, not a snap back or the unishell cases. A higher quality and more complicated to manufacture. The case is possibly unpolished, with the Swiss gold control stamp still visible on the under side of the lug. There are some scratches to the case, and to a couple of the lugs for transparency. It is best to leave these alone for fear of ruining the lugs overall look. The Seahorse case back is in super condition, and is unpolished and very strong looking. A beautiful watch that is so easy to wear and enjoy for another 60 years plus.
