Description

A stainless steel manually wound military presentation watch. This watch has the insignia of the United States Fifth Army, now known as United States Army North (ARNORTH). This formation of the US Army was established on 5th January 1943 and was involved in some of the most fierce fighting during World War Two in the Mediterranean. This particular watch was given as a presentation for a inter-division champion. Other similar watches have been seen with other divisions within the US Army. It was likely for boxing, or similar events held within the division. The watch overall is in excellent original condition, as is the dial, with the original lume filled baton hands. The case is strong and unpolished, with wear commensurate with age. Gruen, a US based watch company, although never actually manufacturing any watches specifically for the military, the brand associated a number of their models with the armed forces. It therefore makes sense that they would have presented watches to members of the armed forces. A rare watch with a unique history.
