1966 Seiko 5 Sportsmatic Deluxe

$825

A stainless steel Seiko 5 Sportsmatic Deluxe model, with automatic movement. This very versatile and handsome watch combines a lot of classic watch DNA with a Seiko spin. The "5" series was initially introduced in 1963, and has been a mainstay in the Seiko line for well over fifty years, with a wide variety of different case and dial designs. The case design is very simple, clean but strong. It wears large on the wrist, thanks in part to the quite thick case and quite large diameter, given it was designed in the 1960's. The case also appears larger due to the dial design that incorporates an inner coin edge bezel, which catches light beautifully.

The dial is a clean and handsome silver colour with split baton hour markers. There is a day and date window at the three o'clock position, which has a quick set function, thanks to the separate recessed crown located at the two thirty position on the edge of the case. Depressing this will skip the date wheel one position. The dial and hand dauphine set are also non-luminous making this watch a more "dress" style. However, the versatile design of this watch makes it just as comfortable on the wrist in a polo shirt and chinos. Classic Seiko design is reflected in the winding crown being set around the four thirty position on the edge of the case.

The watch is powered by the high quality Seiko 25 jewel 'diashock' movement. This example is presented on a mesh metal band, which can be easily removed and this watch could be paired with any one of our very handsome leather watch bands to make it a little more 'dressy'. The watch overall is in superb original comdition, with the case being unpolished.
