A manual wind Breitling time only wrist watch with subsidiary seconds with original box and card hang tag in "New Old Stock" condition. This watch is for the Breitling fans out there, of which there are many. Although, not limited to that group as it is such a handsome, timeless piece. It is an understatement to say that watches like this are hard to find in today's market. Being that this watch is most likely from the 1950s, to find it unused and with its original box and hang tag is quite a rare find indeed.

This is somewhat of a curious watch, but like the Chronograph featured for sale on the J. Press website last year, part of the brand partnership between Breitling and Wakmann watch companies. According to the book "Breitling: History of a Great Brand of Watches", Wakmann was the US distributor of Breitling watches from the 1940s to the 1970s. Some watches were co-signed Breitling/Wakmann as well as just Wakmann but made by Breitling. This type of relationship was not uncommon at a time where heavy tariffs were imposed on pieces coming into the US from the European market, similar to the Longines/Wittnauer, Vacheron/LeCoultre relationships. US distributors of Swiss brands also selling their own. In this case, the dial and movement are from Breitling, but have been cased by Wakmann here in the US. The case is fully signed Wakmann inside. The movement and dial signed Breitling, and the movement bears the Breitling import stamp of BOW on the plate.

The dial is in superb, totally original, condition. It is printed with the script Breitling signature, and signed Swiss Made below the 6 o'clock position. There is a printed minute track that runs along the outside border of the raised teardrop and round hour markers with the raised Arabic 12. The original alpha style hands are present, and note that neither the dial nor the hands have any luminous material applied to them. This would be consistent with a more dressy watch from this time. The 10k gold filled square shape case wears really well on the wrist, and the scrolled style lugs that drop off the ends are also well designed, giving a little additional flair. It is in excellent, untouched condition.

This is a very rare chance to own a complete, albeit without the papers, handsome square shaped dress watch, with the added complication of a subsidiary seconds, in totally original, and unworn condition from one of the world's leading watch makers. Complete with its original bakelite style box, even with its original suede band! Watches like this do not come along often.
