A solid 14 carat yellow gold Tissot dress watch with a handsome ‘quarter’ dial. This is very much a classic and elegant dress watch that typified much watch design from the mid-20th Century, in a good way. The case design is beautiful. The four large swept, almost dogleg-like, lugs are in a thick gauge of gold, and attach to the proportionally wide, flat and slightly sloping bezel surround framing this wonderful silver dial that is divided into four sections, giving the watch a more unique appearance. It catches the light beautifully and is quite unusual. The Tissot period correct script signature is also a beautiful addition. The dial is perhaps the most attractive element to a very attractive watch! Not only do we have a quarter dial, but it also has the concentric circles toward the edge. Applied solid gold arrow head markers are mixed with Arabic numerals. The center set three hands are a classic dauphin design, and very in keeping for the period, and the watch’s design. The watch is presented in superb original condition. The case is unpolished, which is a preferable option for these more fancy case designs. The lugs are thick, sharp and crisp. There is no personalization engraved in the back of the screw back case. The original signed winding crown is also present, and is not a generic shape. Instead it shares the design of the more desirable Omega watches from the period. The watch is powered by the highly reliable, brass finished, caliber 28,5-21 Tissot bumper wind automatic movement. The movement is quite similar to many of the Omega bumper winds from the period as the companies were owned by the same holding company. Overall the watch is in really lovely, honest original condition. Unusual for a watch that is now 70 years old. The dial is original and not re-finished, as is often the case with these mid-century dress watches. If you are looking for a classic vintage watch that can be worn every day with a great presence on the wrist and an eye catching dial, then this will very much fit the bill.
