A 10 carat yellow gold fill Omega dress watch with a silver dial. This is very much a classic and durable example of Omega dress watches form the mid-20th Century, in a good way. A simple and clean case design frames this classic Omega designed dial. At the foot of the dial, is the original “Swiss” printing. The Omega name is also printed in the same black stamping with the iconic Omega logo applied.
The watch is presented in good, original condition. The case appears to be unpolished, a bonus on these early dress watches. The lugs are sharp and crisp. There is no personalization on the original stainless steel screw back case back. The case is quite typical from a number of Swiss watch makers of being a US contract case. Meaning the movement and dial were sent over from Omega in Switzerland, and then a contracted specific case maker was employed in the US to provide the case, having been designed and approved by Omega. This was very common at this time due to high taxes and duties being levied on imports from Europe, especially on gold. This is also why it is a gold filled case not an 18 carat gold case. These were never made in Europe.
The watch is powered by the highly reliable brass finished caliber 550 Omega automatic movement. The movement was used across the board by Omega in a number of time only watches since its launch in 1958. The caliber 550 is a watch movement that was used in several Omega models, including the ionic Seamaster 300. It features Incabloc shock protection and was produced in large quantities between 1958 and 1969, totaling 5,800,000 units. This example is in excellent condition and keeping very good time.
The watch overall is in good condition, and commensurate with a watch that is now approaching 70 years old. The dial is original and not re-finished, as is often the case with these mid-century dress watches. If you are looking for an affordable classic vintage watch that can be worn every day, then this will tick the box.
