A solid fourteen carat gold automatic Omega Seamaster De Ville with date. This very popular model from the iconic Seamaster line was launched 1963 and remained in the line until about 1967. It is very much a 'classic' wrist watch that is hard to not like. An unfussy, clean case with small frame, fine straight lugs and csimple, uncluttered dial make it a very easy watch to wear on a daily basis. It is a practical, hard working watch, thanks to its hard working Omega automatic movement. This reference has the date window located at the classic three o’clock position. The fine and clean stick hands are filled in the center with Tritium luminous material (dial stamped T Swiss T at the base), which is also found nestled into the ends of each of the applied gold hour markers. All of which are present, in excellent condition and have aged to a handsome light laté colour, sitting along the hashed minute track.
The watch is powered by an Omega caliber 563 automatic movement. The 563 is a 17 jewels, Swiss made, automatic movement that was found in various models in the 1960s, and was introduced by the brand circa 1959. This vintage calibre is in Omega’s signature copper plate movement with a swan neck style regulator system. The movement includes a “quick set” date feature. This is achieved not in the conventional way of rotating through the crown. Rather, one must pull out the crown and push it back in repeatedly until the correct date is achieved. There were a number of iterations based on this ebauche from the time for different models. They ranged from the 560 through to the 564.
The handsome silver dial is signed Omega with the applied gold logo along with the printed Seamaster logo, with iconic "coat hanger" style S all of which is original, and not re-finished. The winding crown is also original with the Omega logo applied to it. The case back of the unishell case features the Seamaster seahorse logo and is in excellent unpolished condition. Overall, a superb, crisp and handsome iconic watch from one of the world's leading watch makers that is versatile enough o be worn in the office, or on the weekend.
