A stainless steel gold plated automatic Movado Kingmatic.  Movado Watch company is a renowned watch company whose name that means ""always in motion"" in Esperanto. The company started its journey in 1881 and later went onto to make some of the most iconic watches of the early to mid 20th Century. What began as a small workshop in La Chaux-de-faunds, Switzerland, went on to be a leading name across the world. It was the gifted Achille Ditisheim along with the group of his six employees who initiated the grand move to establish Movado Watch.

Movado were a leading figure in releasing water-resistant wristwatches, going back as early as the mid-1930s, by the early 1960s Movado was producing dive watches to contend with the era's greater-known offerings from names like Rolex, Omega, Heuer & Tudor.

This model, called the 'Kingmatic”  is a stunning piece of Movado's long history of beautiful, simplified designs that were launched in the 1950’s. This is also a “Sub Sea” marked screw back case back.  Another sub-brand in the Monaco repertoire. These waterproof cases were made by both Taubert and Borgel (the same maker that produced the case for the Patek Calatrava reference 2508).  So, as one might expect, are high quality.  Although, it is not recommended to submerge any vintage watch into water!

The watch comes on its original USA made JB Champion bracelet with the Monaco logo on the back of the deployant buckle.  These are very unusual bracelets and seldom come up.  This particular one has a three color gold pattern running through the links.  Champion made bracelets for every watch company selling in the US from Rolex to Jaeger LeCoultre.  Essentially the Gay Freres of America!

The watch is in excellent condition. The case is unpolished and very clean throughout.  The watch can be taken off the bracelet if so desired, and worn on a leather band.  The original dial is in excellent condition with the original sunburst pattern strong with some fading to the gold color in the center.  This does not detract overall and gives it a more vintage feel.  The original lume is present in both the hands on in the plots above the fine baton hour markers.  The dial is marked ‘Switzerland’ at the foot of the dial.
