A solid 18k yellow gold dress watch by Baume & Mercier retailed by Tiffany & Co.. This is a very clean, easy to wear watch that is of the highest quality of make. The watch is fitted to its original, solid and very well made, 18k yellow gold bracelet.
The Swiss watchmaker Baume & Mercier was founded in 1830 in Les Bois, Switzerland by brothers Louis-Victor and Célestin Baume. In 1918, the company's name was changed when William Baume, Louis-Victor's grandson, partnered with Paul Mercier. Baume & Mercier is renowned for its innovative and stylish watch designs, including the Marquise, Galaxie, and Stardust models. The brand's logo - the Greek letter Phi - symbolizes their philosophy of equilibrium and ideal proportions.
This quartz powered model is a very easy to wear watch. The watch is presented in excellent original condition. The case and bracelet have never been polished, and show only light signs of wear. The co-signed dial is in perfect condition and represents a rare example of the two companies working together. Baume & Mercier also made watches for Cartier during this time, and earlier. They were famed for their high quality case making, and good quality durable movements. This watch being a prime example. The bracelet measures around 7.5” in length so it will comfortably fit most wrists. It can also be sized down, if required.
To find a watch on an 18k gold factory bracelet from this time is increasingly difficult to find, especially with gold racing toward $3000 an ounce.
